General information
In order to enter Vietnam, Sri Lankan citizens must present a valid visa. Sri Lankan citizens are eligible to apply for a Vietnamese visa upon arrival - a new type of visa requires minimal time and effort to use. For those currently residing in Australia, you can also apply for a visa at the embassy.
Both visa on arrival and visa at the embassy give visitors the right to enter the territory of Vietnam for the purpose of tourism or business. While visa visas allow applicants to prepare less paper work and apply whenever they want; visa at the embassy to the holder of the Sri Lankan passport requires preparation and specific documentation.
The visa processing time upon arrival depends on the type of visa. Candidates wishing to enter Vietnam for sightseeing purposes need to wait two business days, while applicants for business purposes need to wait five business days. The processing time at the Australian Embassy is 24 hours if the applicant provides full documentation. This means that the embassy may ask you to submit additional documents. Therefore, prolonging the processing time is inevitable.
After the visa application process, the applicant will receive a letter of approval, which they will use later at the airport to obtain the visa stamp. As for visas at the embassy, you will obtain a visa on the passport before coming to Vietnam. Visa applications can be made online, however, for visas at embassies, Sri Lankan citizens are required to apply by mail or in person. Persons with Australian and New Zealand passports can apply online through the embassy's website for the purpose of travel only.

Step 2: The Embassy will return your passport and visa by post. You can also go to the embassy and get your visa. After receiving your visa, please check the visa details, such as passport number, name, validity of visa, entry date and exit. If there is any mistake, please contact the embassy within three working days.

How to get the visa on arrival for Sri Lanka citizens
To apply for a Vietnam visa on arrival, please follow these simple steps:
Step 1: Fill in the online application form on vietnamvisavoa.com with your full name, date of birth, nationality, passport number, date of arrival and visa type. Then pay the online service fee through PayPal, Western Union, Bank Transfer or by credit card. Service fees vary depending on the number of applicants and the type of visa.
Step 2: After 2 (for tourist visa) to 5 business days (for business visa), you will receive a visa approval letter via email. All you need to do is print out a Vietnamese visa and visa application, prepare two passport-size photos and bring them to the airport with your original passport.
Step 3: Present your necessary documents above to immigration officials, pay stamp and get your visa. Stamp fees vary depending on the type of visa and the duration of your stay.
